About Control Your Auto Publishing, Inc.

In August 2004, Courtney's mother gave her the idea to publish a book about autoimmune diseases. Courtney loved the idea, but she was concerned that not too many people would be interested in reading a book only about her autoimmune disease, Myasthenia Gravis. So

she decided to mail book proposals to people she wanted to be contributing writers with the project.

After receiving such a wonderful response from the proposals, Courtney formed Control Your Auto Publishing, Inc. in April 2005. Five writers agreed to sign contracts to contribute to the book that would explore African American women with autoimmune diseases and how their family members cope with their chronic illnesses.

During 2005 and 2006 two of Courtney’s contributing writers underwent two surgeries within the span of one year. One writer’s surgeries were a direct result of her autoimmune disease Sjogren’s Syndrome. The other writer who was writing about witnessing her mother’s struggle with the autoimmune disease Rheumatoid Arthritis tore both of her Achilles tendons. Once both women expressed the dilemma they were facing with their health, Courtney realized that she could not place undo stress upon the ladies to complete their book chapters.

Courtney began to pray and asked God how she could continue to spread awareness about autoimmune diseases now that the book project was on hold. God gave her the vision of producing a documentary about women and autoimmune diseases. So she established Control Your Auto Productions, Inc. in April 2006 and began filming the documentary “Beauty Does Lie: The Untold Stories of Autoimmune Diseases” in June 2006.
